Life After Death Explained

Life after death is a topic that divides many religions and cultures. The fear that death strikes in us, and the wonder of being alive are two things which are present in everyone. The mystery surrounding death has been tried to be explained by many scholars, but the irony remains, that you cannot explain clearly until you experience death, and you cannot explain once you experience death. But, our Hindusim has a remarkable explanation for what happens after death and about the cycle of life and death, almost unlike the concepts found in other religious system.

It is said that every deed/action that we perform on this earth leads to the accumulation of 'karma'. This karma is allotted, based on whether the deed was good or bad. When the permitted living time is over, an estimation of a final 'karma' is made for the particular individual, and he/she is reborn on this earth based on his karma. The good deeds lead to positive karma while bad deeds obviously lead to negative karma. The karma from previous lives are almost accumulated throughout the following births. This accumulated karma helps in deciding the status and fate in the next birth. This process continues until the soul attains a stage where only positive karma is there. This particular stage is called 'moksha' or salvation.

It is said that it takes thousands of births for a soul to pass from animals to humans, and it takes even longer for the soul to go from a normal human to a good natured human . Thus, a soul is trapped in this almost never ending to and fro journey between bodies. Only god has the power to make changes in this journey of the soul.  The fastest way to attain moksha (or) salvation in this kali yuga , is said to be devotion. Sincere devotion is like a large saw which chops away chunks of bad karma. No amount of temple visits, nor expenses can replace the simple emotion of devotion.

Thus, according to our Hinduism, there definitely is life after death, the only difference is that we consider life and death as a continuous cycle which complement each other. So, every birth is for a new death and every death is for a new life, and hence these terms almost seem meaningless.

Rama Navami

Rama Navami is said to be the celebration of Lord Rama's birth. In this 2012, Rama Navami falls on 01st April. This auspicious occasion should be made use of to atone for our sins and acquire the infinite grace of Lord Rama. It is often said that chanting Lord Rama's name once is equivalent to chanting Lord Vishnu's name a thousand times. This post is the first in a series of posts on Lord Rama as a celebration of Rama Navami.

ram navami
The rituals related to Rama Navami may be started 7-9 days, such that they culminate on the Navami day. It is advisable to make the whole family participate in such prayers so that the benefits fall upon everyone equally. At the night before the day on which you wish to start performing the Rama Navami related rituals, clean the pooja room or a corner of your house (preferably the north-east, or south-west), and keep a lamp there. Now place a lamp beside the lamp. Now, place a photo of Lord Rama behind the lamp. Then, sit in front of the lamp and chant the following mantra 41 times, while holding your right hand over the centre of your head, and the left hand over your navel :

om hari shree dasharathanandanaya shree bhakthavalsalaya namo namah

ॐ हरी श्री दश्रधनंदनाया श्री भक्थ्वाल्सलाया नमो नमः

Special Ritual For Success In Business and Job

Lord Ganesha is said to be easily pleased, but is also famous for testing the faith of his devotees. People who are unable to gain success in any form of business or profession, will find the below ritual to be greatly helpful. On a friday morning, after bathing, light a lamp and keep it in front of a photo of Lord Ganesha. Now, take a coin (of any denomination), and place it on a piece of cloth that is spread out on a small plate. Now place the plate near the base of the lamp. Then take a bowl of rice and keep it beside you. Chant the mantra given below, while taking some rice between the ring finger and thumb of your right hand. After each repetition of the mantra, shower the rice over the coin placed on the plate. Repeat the mantra 540 times, (the three lines together may be considered as a single chant of the mantra).

Om gajananaya namah         ॐ गजाननाय नमः
Om yogadheeshaya namah     ॐ योगढ़ीशाया नमः
Om parvathi puthraya namah    ॐ पार्वति पुत्राय नमः

After the above ritual is completed, tie the piece of cloth as a small bundle (the size of an onion) with the coin and some rice inside it( the rest of the rice may be washed and used for normal cooking purposes). Now place the photo of Lord Ganesha in the south-west corner of your establishment/office room, and keep the bundle beside the photo. Repeat the above mantra once every day in the morning while standing in front of this photo. After 21 days, you will start to find a substantial difference in your financial status.

Please do share the above ritual with any of your near and dear ones who may find it helpful.Om

Lord Shiva...My Saviour

[This post is the first in a new section called 'My Experience', in which our beloved readers can share their experiences and memories about God and/or Hinduism]

Lord Shiva has always been my sole source of happiness. Ever since i was a little child, i was used to hearing stories about the greatness of Lord Shiva and how he was always ready to rush to help his devotees. I have often felt the grace of Lord Shiva in my life and  would like to share my most memorable experience here.

I have the habit of going to a nearby Shiva temple on every sunday. During my undergraduate exam time, i used to go to the temple and pray on the way to my college. On the day of my Electronics paper examination, i started from my home a little early since i was particularly worried about the test. I went straight to the Shiva temple and did my usual prayers, but due to the crowd at the temple, i became a little late and the door in front of the idol was closed for the morning pooja while i was praying. I was in quite a dilemma, since i might be late for my exam if i wait for the door to open, but if i go while it is closed, i might fall prey to Lord Shiva's anger. I thought for a while and then decided to stay and pray, since i felt that Lord Shiva's blessings would help me overcome any possible problems. After the pooja i hurried out of the temple. By this time it had started to rain. I was unable to get my usual bus and had to wait at the bus stop. After about 10 minutes, i decided to ask for a lift from people going on bikes. One particular gentleman stopped and agreed to help me. On the way to the college, the bike underwent an accident. Myself and the rider where thrown out of the bike and we landed onto the pavement as i shouted "mahadeva". When i got up, i realized that i had fallen onto a few cardboard boxes placed at the side and had just managed to miss an iron railing (with pointed tips) by a few inches. I didn't even have a scratch on me. My fellow rider had also miraculously escaped, while the bike was completely damaged. By-standers were amazed at our escape and made us understand how fortunate we were. I thanked Lord Shiva with all my heart and knew that it was only his infinite grace which saved my life. After that i proceeded to my college. I was 20mins late for my examination and was quite sure that i would have to appear for an arrear in the exam. But ,i was baffled when i got 75% for that paper when the results came. I could not stop thanking Lord Shiva for his blessings and know that every time i spend even a second to pray, that Lord Shiva is really listening to me and is always there to help me.
Om namah Shivaya
