DeleteThere is a psychological justification to this ritual as taught during my studies.
ReplyDeleteThe technique is called'Projection technique'
All your negativities are projected on to the idol and since we cannot really wash away those sins or negativies,we resort to washing the idol with the dearest liquid or potion that you like.
It is symbolic and cleanses your heart and mind and thus washes you off your negativities.
While I am unable to give any reference,to me it appeared very logical.What else can justify 'Neyyabhishekam?'Who would like to be bathed in clarified butter?But,clarified butter is something which the human beings like.Washing with that can purify,as per this thought process.
