What Is Hinduism ? Who Is A Hindu ?

Hinduism is not a mere religion that can be followed by simply praying to a particular god or visiting a specific temple. Hinduism is a ‘way of life’ that aims at striking a balance between humans and nature, while also ensuring that life is peaceful and happy for everyone. There is no single establisher of Hinduism. Hinduism has no single person or no single set of rules which have to be strictly adhered to. A hindu does not require any initiation or custom to be a hindu, as every human is born ready and eligible for Hinduism. Hindusim is a choice that is made by a person to make sure that he shows his/her gratitude to God by loving each creation of God equally and making sure no unwanted harm comes to any of it.

A hindu must recognise the presence of God in every creation, including human beings. A hindu must realise that the human mind is the abode of god, and that it should be kept free from any form of malice. A hindu should always remember that he/she accumulates karma onto his indestructible soul through every thought and action. Thus, it automatically necessitates purity of thought and action, which is the foundation of Hinduism.

Hinduism is not comprised of superstitious customs or cruel rituals as most people believe. There are complex scientific reasons behind every aspect of true Hinduism, but most of it has been kept far from the reach of the common person’s understanding due to explanations being in Sanskrit. True Hinduism has largely been altered and exploited by many people of vested interests. These manipulations have lead to many misinterpretations of Hinduism and lead to lots of clashes.

I end this post with a wish that Hinduism reclaims it's lost glory soon. Om

  1. Thank u sooooooooooooooo much for this blog and I really appreciate for all your efforts that you took time for the people like me to provide such wonderful information about HINDUISIM. I will definitely follow this. But, I have one doubt? For almost every mantra has 108 times of chanting, so which mantra should I follow on a daily basis? Forgive me, that I m questioning u in this way, but to be honest I m very confused because I m working and from morning till wat time should I chant these mantras. I gone through all the mantras, slokas, the different types of pujas, I really liked it and even want to chant every mantra and slokas which I read. But, how? Plz help me?

    1. Om...Dear Shivaniji...I understand your doubt and it is definitely one that is there on the minds of many working professionals whose lives are fast paced..thats why i often mention that it is the sincerity in our minds which is most important and not necessarily the blind following of a ritual...a single chant with sincere devotion is more effective than a 100 mechanical chants...so you can select any mantra or stotra which you feel is suitable...you may remember God anytime , while you are going to eat, while you are going to sleep,etc...So it is not very strictly necessary that you have to follow a mechanical process with mantras...i hope your doubt is clarified..May God bless you ...wish you all the best

    2. Dear Princess Shivani,

      Greetings from Mauritius!

      Just to add more to Blog Admin's advice. As Hindus, we should:

      1. Before getting out of bed, before touching the ground, we must recite (Karaagrê Vasatê):

      Karaagrê Vasatê Lakshmiih;
      Karamadhyê Saraswatii;
      Karamuullê Tu Govindah;
      Prabhaatê Karadarshanam.
      --------
      Samudravasanê Devi Parvatastanaman Dalê Vishnupatni Namastubhyam Paadasparsham Kshamasva Mê
      --------
      Explanation

      The front part of the hands (the finger tips) are ascribed to Goddess Lakshmi, the Goddess of wealth, the middle part (the palm proper) to Goddess Saraswati, the Goddess of learning and the root (the part of the hands near the wrist) to Govindah, the Supreme God.

      Therefore, every morning one should have a respectful look at one’s hand which symbolizes honest labour, etc…

      O! Mother Earth, who has the ocean as clothes and mountains and forests on her body, who is the wife of Lord Vishnu, I bow to you. Please forgive me for touching you with my feet.

      2. While taking a bath, we must recite
      (Gangê Cha Yamunê):

      Gangê Cha Yamunê Chaiva Godavari Saraswati
      Narmadê Sindhu Kaveri Jaslesmin Sannidhim Kuru

      Explanation

      In this water, I invoke the presence of the holy waters from the rivers of Ganga, Yamuna, Godavari, Saraswati, Narmada, Sindhu and Kaveri.

      I sincerely believe every Hindu must start the day with the three mantras mentioned above.

      One more advice is to wake up before sunrise.

      Kindly pass on above message to all Hindus in your vicinity.

  2. Dear blog Admin, Hari Om!

    Greetings from Mauritius.

    Your article is praiseworthy.

    May I say that the establisher of Hinduism is the Almighty God Himself. And I further add that our holy texts were initially the sound incarnation of God and due to weakness of human retention potential with ages and non-practice of yoga, it became important for Sri Vyas and other sages to put these narrations in writing. By the way our sacred Ramayana was translated by Sri Tulsidas just before the British took power in India. There are some interesting facts concerning this translated Ramayana which I shall described later.

    In your last paragraph you stated that true Hinduism has been kept far from the reach of common people due to our holy texts being in Sanskrit. According to my research and findings, this is one reason. Invaders of India (Greeks, Shaks, Huns, Arabs, Pathans, Mongols, Portuguese, French, British, politicians and nowadays missionaries and jihadists) have contributed to this fact by distortion, force, conversions, secularism. What Islam and Christianity have done to Hindus and Hinduism are readily available on the web.

    I am optimist to reclaim our glories provided we open our senses and react accordingly to the dark forces behind.

    "Protect Dharma, Dharma will protect you"!
